Wendell Dont’e Meeks Jr., affectionately known as Mikey, entered this world on December 7th, 1981, in St. Joseph, MI, to his loving parents Wendell Meeks Sr. and Virginia Roman Meeks. From his earliest days, Wendell was surrounded by love and imbued with a spirit of compassion and generosity that would come to define his life. Wendell’s journey of faith began at an early age when he was baptized under the guidance of the late Rev. Donald Atkins of Second Baptist Church. His faith would serve as a guiding light throughout his life, shaping his actions and inspiring him to always seek ways to help others.
Mikey was a beacon of love and life, his heart overflowing with affection for his family and friends. He possessed a rare gift for connecting with others, always eager to lend a helping hand and spread joy wherever he went. Whether it was offering assistance to those in need or simply sharing a smile and a kind word, Mikey’s presence had a profound impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A familiar sight in his community, Mikey was often seen riding his bike, eagerly inquiring if there was work to be done. His genuine eagerness to assist others earned him a reputation as someone who embodied the spirit of kindness and generosity.
To many, he was simply Mikey - a beloved friend and neighbor whose warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who crossed his path. On May 20, 2024, Wendell transitioned to glory, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell Meeks Sr., his brother, Antwane D. Roman, his grandparents, Cecil and Mary Roman, John and Ida B. Meeks, as well as nine uncles: Alton, James, Albert H., Kenny Roman, Gregory, Bernard, Dwight Meeks, Putman, Robert, two aunts: Jeanette and Eloise Allen, and nephew Ken’Dell Dont’a Meeks. Wendell leaves behind his beloved mother, Virginia, three siblings: Ken‘dell Meeks of Benton Harbor, MI., Verla, and Lisa Nichols of Chicago, IL., and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory in their hearts forever. Among those who held a special place in Wendell’s heart were his three favorite cousins: Trina Cross, Trenice Shaw, and Carl Roman. Their bond was a testament to the enduring power of family and friendship, and their memories together will be cherished for a lifetime.
