Vernon Rimpson Jr., 63 of Benton Harbor, Michigan, departed this life on June 23, 2024.
Vernon was born June 28, 1960 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to the late Vernon Rimpson Sr. and Mary Louise Gladney Rimpson. In the early 1970’s, along with three of his siblings he was baptized at the Beautiful Gate Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C. M. Jones Sr.
Vernon spent time at Union Park in Benton Harbor during his youth where he participated in ice skating, playing minor league and little league baseball. While attending Fair Plain Junior High, Vernon played basketball and while in high school, he played basketball under Coach, James Rutter. He loved playing domino’s, washing cars, visiting and joking with family and friends. He had a personality that never allowed him to be a stranger in any environment. He was always the first to contact his siblings, nieces, nephews, and some cousins on their birthday.
Vernon was a Hurricane Katrina survivor in 2005 when he relocated from Biloxi, MS to Hoston, TX, before settling back in Benton Harbor in 2023. He was employed at Old Europe Cheese in Benton Harbor, Michigan and at a young age he inherited his love for washing and detailing automobiles from his father.
Vernon leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mary Rimpson, Benton Harbor, MI; sons, Vernon “Shonte” Clark and Vershon “Cory” Clark, Benton Harbor, MI; sisters, Carolyn (Albert) Wallace of Lithia Springs, GA, Michelle (Johnny) Singer, Benton Harbor, MI and Kim (Carlos) Wright, Indianapolis, IN; brother, Dewayne Rimpson, Benton Harbor, MI; 12 Grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; great-aunt, Annie Lenzie; great-uncle, Ernest Rimpson; aunts, Mattie Johnson, Virginia Miller, and Hortense Guest; special friends, Lester “Biggie” Peterson, Tony Coleman, Eugene Hines and Billie Palmer; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by sister Mary Elizabeth Rimpson, grandparents Roosevelt Gladney, Ella Mae Brown, UT and Mattie Rimpson.
