Teresa Michelle Drake made her debut in the world on May 26, 1971, at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, MI. She was a beautiful healthy baby born to the late Charles “Sunny” Drake and Mattie Drake. Teresa joined Union Memorial A.M.E. Church under the direction of Reverend Bowman.
Teresa graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1989 and later attended Central State University in Ohio. She devoted her life to family and welcomed her first child, Damian Malik Harvey in 1997. In 2000 she welcomed her second son, Jordan Montrel Harvey. In 2006, Teresa relocated to Indianapolis, IN where she worked alongside friends as an employee of Carrier Corporation. Teresa enjoyed spending time with family and friends, which usually involved her being on a winning team playing Spades. She also blossomed at adding her own flair to any event, often being called upon to cook and host. She enjoyed cooking and played with the idea of opening her own restaurant, she loved baking and looked forward to starting an online channel devoted to it. Teresa enjoyed reading, music, dancing, and all quality time with family. There was never a dull moment in her presence. She was a great mother, a loyal friend, and a fiercely protective sibling. Her smile was so bright that you could not help but notice her when she entered the room.
Teresa’s infectious personality was undeniably a gift presented to the world. She leaves to cherish her memories her sons: Damian Harvey and Jordan Harvey of Benton Harbor, MI, her mother Mattie Brooks, father, Larry Brooks of Benton Harbor, MI, three sisters: Kenya (Marcus) Meridy, Asia Brooks of Indianapolis, IN, and Dasha Dixon of Minneapolis, MN, two brothers: Charles Drake of Benton Harbor, MI and Duron (Atrell) Patton of Las Vegas, NV, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Teresa transitioned from this life on Monday, July 24, 2023, at St. Vincent Ascension Hospice Facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. Teresa was preceded in death by her father Charles “Sunny” Drake and grandparents: Irene “Sweetie” McKinney, Joe McKinney Jr., Anna Mae Drake, and Jessie Drake.
She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and experiencing her bright smile and beautiful personality. Let us not forget the gift we have been given for 52 years, the laughs, the talks, the comforting, the presence of a true Queen. Until we see you again, Teresa Michelle Drake.
