Sylvester L. Crayton Sr., 60 of Benton Harbor MI unfortunately passed away June 11th 2024 at Corwell Health South St. Joseph, MI Where he was surrounded by the love of his family during the last days of his transition.
Sylvester was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on March 13, 1964, the son of Herman Crayton and Betty Hurd. Sylvester also known as (Bay Bay) was the second child of five born to Betty, Sylvester accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his final days. Sylvester was educated through the Benton Harbor Area School District where he departed at an early age to pursue work in his late teens and early twenties with the Benton Harbor Sanitation Department. He later began work for himself doing landscaping and becoming a handyman for many families and companies around the Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren area.
Sylvester leaves to cherish his memories to his children: Curtis Johnson of Benton Harbor, MI, Sylvester (Angel) Crayton Jr. of Benton Harbor, MI; grandchildren: Clarke Crayton, Sylvarion Crayton and Ashalyn Crayton all of Benton Harbor, MI; bonus daughter Tashia Hudson of Benton Harbor, MI; three sisters: Regina (Jerry) McClinton of Benton Harbor, MI, Carolyn (Ralph) Payne of Benton Harbor, MI, Merilyn (Stacy) Smith of Benton Harbor, MI, and bonus sister Karen “KayKay” Pratcher of Dallas, TX; nieces: VonShika Bullocks, LaKeisha Crayton, Shakema Crayton, and Victoria Kirby all of Benton Harbor, MI. Nephews: Dontay Rushing, of Washington, Bennie Woods of South Bend, IN, Larry McIntosh, LaMarcus Crayton, and Lavar Crayton of Benton Harbor, MI. A host of great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.
Sylvester will be preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Liora Deberry of Brownsville, TN, father Herman Crayton, stepfather John Hurd, brother Robert Earl Goodman, sister Shaletha Griffin, and long time employer and friend Robert Bowman all of Benton Harbor, MI. To know Sylvester was to love him, he was a great person who loved his mother dearly as well as his family. He was one of the best cooks ever and if you asked him no one in the world could beat him at frying chicken. He had a laugh that could be heard a mile away and the voice of a R & B King if you’ve ever heard him sing you know he could go with some of the best of them it was a natural given talent and he was good at it Both cooking and singing.
