Rosie Razor (80) was born October 27, 1945, in Ridgely, Tennessee to the union of Rev. Willie C McCoy and Clara Lee McCoy. She passed away surrounded by her family at Memorial hospital. Rosie relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1965 where she attended culinary school to become a chef, and later worked for Navajo and Shuler’s restaurant for several years.
Rosie joined Christian Light Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Leonard Robinson. She attended there several years until she joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Joe N. Hines. At Pleasant Grove, Rosie was a member of the Senior Choir, Kitchen Committee and was always willing to help in any way that she could.
She was a very outgoing person who loved to cook and be around family. She loved cooking so much she decided to open a restaurant and put her skills to work. She was a big family person and used every opportunity she could find to get her family together. She looked forward to her turn to host the family reunions. She would start organizing and preparing early to be sure everything was perfect. She had smiles for days after cooking for holidays and having all her family around. She handed her love for cooking down to all her grandchildren, because she would have them all in the kitchen doing something. Even with a house full of kids, she somehow still wanted her home to be spotless!
She will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she loved and whom loved her, 2 daughters Reshonda Cheers of Toledo, OH; and Kotina Razor of South Bend, IN; and a special daughter Marilynn Wooden of Benton Harbor, MI. 12 grandchildren Ernest Lee, Kotina Atkins, Jermisha Osby, Jerome Atkins Jr and Jerniya Atkins all of Benton Harbor, MI; Markie Atkins, Porshea Murray, Richard Atkins, Rickie Atkins of Indianapolis, IN; Joshua Williams, Darius Razor, and Koneisha Triplett of South Bend, IN. Her siblings Betty McCoy of Greer, SC; Bernice Swift & Pastor Donnie (Marilyn) Mays Ridgely, TN; and Julius McCoy of Detroit, MI. Sister-in-law Elizabeth Kimble; Special friend, John McGee; Close friends Diane Bridgman, Ethel Reese, Wanda Martin and Joann Stewart; 33 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Aclee Razor, parents Rev. Willie C McCoy and Clara Lee McCoy, sons; Richard Lamont Atkins and Jerome Atkins, daughter; Mildred Atkins, her brothers Pastor Larry McCoy, William McCoy, Leroy McCutchen, Jimmie Hurt, sister; Betty Burris and close friend Evelyn Marlow.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
