Rosetta Autman was born to Violet J. Groce and Enoch Beene on May 7, 1933, in Birmingham Alabama, and was raised by Cebrella Beene. Rosetta attended George Washington Carver High School and graduated from Siggers High School in Shannon Mississippi.
Rosetta was a member of Stevenson Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Tupelo, Mississippi, and was Baptized at an early age. Rosetta married Eardine Sargent and from this union two sons, Robert, and Carl, were born. Rosetta subsequently married James Autman and in this union one son, Walter was born.
Rosetta’s interest led her to employment at the North Mississippi Community Hospital in Tupelo where she became a trailblazer and the first black student in their LPN program. an employee for 2 ½ years at North Mississippi Community Hospital in Tupelo and the 1st black to be enrolled in the hospital's course in the licensed practical nursing program. Her nursing endeavors included obtaining her RN designation from Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor Michigan where she gained employment with Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor from where she retired in 1986.
Rosetta had a loving, caring, and giving spirit as exemplified by the spiritual guidance she routinely provided in support of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church throughout the years.
Rosetta transitioned on January 1, 2022, her special caregiving spirit will be missed by her two sons Robert and Carl, one granddaughter Carlesha Williams (Dwon) one great-granddaughter Jazell Sims, one great-grandson Dwon Williams II. Three brothers David (Irma) Long, Lester Long, and Charles (status unknown) Long. Two Goddaughters Sharon Newson (Willie) Tupelo Mississippi and Nadia Henry (Yakini) South Bend Indiana as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins' other relatives, and friends. Rosetta was preceded in death by her youngest son Walter, her parents, and three brothers Larry, Walter, and Melvin Long in addition to two sisters Climmie Ferguson, Cleta Beale, and one brother Hollis Beene.
Rosetta was a formal member of the St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and served in several capacities main love the stewardess board and remain until her transition.
