Robert Louis Taylor, Sr., 64, born on August 12, 1959 to Robert Mingo and Martha Lee Taylor in Magnolia Mississippi. Robert is the second born child to this union of seven children, four boys and three girls. Robert settled in Benton Harbor, Michigan with his family later met and married Cora Gibbs and to their union five children were born.
Robert known to many as the suavely dressed Sonny with one of the cleanest rides in town. He loved fishing and hunting; however, his first love was not Lanny it was washing his vehicle on Saturday morning. You could find him afterwork Monday through Friday wiping off the afternoon dust.
Just as Sonny would be found clean and well dressed with a clean and shining vehicle, he kept a well-dressed lawn as well. You weren’t going to find his shiny red truck sitting on grass ankle high.
Sonny had three main jobs. First, was taking care of family. Second he worked for Department of Human Services as a security guard for over 2 decades and last and his most important job was giving anyone that came in his space a life lecture that left you nodding your head a hundred times (you know what I’m saying) LOL his favorite saying.
Sonny a very special person who will truly be missed by many leaves to cherish those memories his wife Cora Taylor, mother Martha Taylor; 3 sons, Jamal Stevenson, Robert (Astar) Taylor, Jr. and Michael Taylor; 5 daughters, Shamika Biddle, Roberta (Oscar) Thompson, Tieshia, Rosilyn, and Kathy Taylor; 2 sisters, Brenda (Larry) Brinson and Tracey Rogers; 1 brother, Gregory Taylor; 2 sisters-in-law’s, Tammy and Monigue Taylor; 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 uncle Johnny Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sonny was proceeded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, 1 sister, 2 brothers, 1 niece, 2 great nephews, some aunts, uncles, and cousins.
