Ricky Burton Obituary

Ricky Glen Burton was born January 13, 1962, in Marion County “Columbia” Mississippi to the union of the late Glen and Lovie Mae Jacob Burton. During Rick’s earlier years of his life, he grew up in the rural areas of Prentiss, MS.

He was a fun and loving kid. Being the oldest brother (second child) in the family, Rick would help his dad take care of the younger siblings. Their mom passed away at the early age of 36 and left Glen (Rick’s father) to take care of seven children. Rick learned to drive at the age of eight and by the age of ten, Rick was driving around the countryside in Prentiss. While Rick's dad would be away working, Rick would get his dad’s truck and drive his siblings to the country store to buy candy, and some days he would sneak into town and go by the hospital to visit their mom while she was sick. Rick would get up early in the morning to attend to a vegetable garden and livestock of pigs to make sure his younger siblings had food to eat.

Rick attended school at Columbia High School and was well-liked by his peers in the class of 1979. During Rick’s high school years, he worked at a supermarket in Columbia, MS called Super Value to help take care of his brothers and sisters. Every week upon payday, Rick would buy groceries for his siblings. His siblings loved that Rick brought them home ice cream every other night.

Rick came to Michigan in 1980 to work in the automobile industry with his special Uncle Casey. Rick was employed with Leco Corp for many years, during which time he met Linda Brown who birthed his only son Glen O’Neil Burton. Rick remained very fond of all his siblings, even miles away. His sister Lynn Dale (pumpkin) is the one he depended on the most. He called her mom because she would stay on him if she thought he was doing something that was not in his best interest. Rick often called her “mean” but later understood her role in keeping him focused and the importance of them all needing each other.

Rick’s life consisted of joyful memories of work, fishing, and hanging out with his friends. Rick spent the remainder of his working years employed with R-B Rebuilders and enjoying life with his life partner Patricia Davis.

Ricky Glen Burton had a heart of gold and would help anybody. Rick will always be remembered for being free-hearted, always smiling, and his love of cracking jokes.
