Rickey Lee Dumas III

 Rickey Lee Dumas III, 18 of Benton Harbor departed this life May 27, 2026. Rickey, affectionately known as “Dough,” was born on February 17, 2008, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to his loving parents, Kyla McDowell and Rickey Dumas Jr. From the very beginning, Rickey possessed a vibrant personality, a warm heart, and a smile that could brighten even the darkest day. He was a young man full of promise, determination, and love for those around him.

Rickey spent his early childhood years in Memphis, Tennessee, where he attended Shelby County Schools and developed many lifelong friendships and cherished memories. At the age of 12, he relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, where he continued to grow into the remarkable young man that so many came to know and love. Later, Rickey settled in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he proudly became a member of the Benton Harbor High School Class of 2026. During his time at Benton Harbor High School, Rickey actively participated in the Peace4Life Leadership Academy and Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program, demonstrating his commitment to leadership, personal growth, and preparing for a successful future. He was also a dedicated athlete who proudly represented his school as a member of the Benton Harbor Tigers football and baseball teams, where he built strong friendships and displayed teamwork, perseverance, and school pride.

Rickey was a talented and creative young man with a passion for art and self-expression. He dreamed of one day launching his own clothing line, combining his artistic vision with his entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to his creative talents, Rickey had a strong interest in technology and aspired to pursue a degree in computer engineering after graduating from high school. His ambitions reflected both his intelligence and his desire to build a meaningful future for himself and those he loved. Recently employed as a sales associate at Meijer, Rickey took great pride in earning his own income and gaining valuable work experience. He celebrated every accomplishment, big and small, and was excited about the opportunities that lay ahead.

More than his achievements, Rickey will be remembered for the person he was. He was a bright, caring, and compassionate young man whose presence brought joy and laughter wherever he went. His infectious smile had a way of making others feel welcome, and his sense of humor could lift the spirits of anyone around him. Rickey had a gift for connecting with people, and his genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether he was spending time with family, hanging out with friends, creating art, playing sports, or simply sharing a laugh. Rickey embraced life with enthusiasm and an open heart.

Above all else, Rickey treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. They were the center of his world, and the love he shared with them was evident in every interaction. Though his life was far too short, the impact he made on those around him will endure forever. While Rickey may no longer be with us in the physical sense, his beautiful smile, contagious laughter, loving spirit, and countless cherished memories will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, resilience, creativity, and joy will never be forgotten.

Rickey's memories will live on through his mother and father Kyla McDowell and Rickey (Gloria) Dumas Jr.; his brothers Louis Gordon Jr. II, Allan and Daniel Dumas; his bonus siblings Xaviun (Zay) Gordon, Ko’Leeon (KT) Walker, and Unyeek Walker; his Grandparents June Allison and Rickey Dumas Sr.; his great- grandmothers Betty Jean Dumas and Martha Carter; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Rickey is preceded in death by his grandparents Glenn McDowell and Willa Dickson; his aunt Ayria McDowell; and his Great grandfather Willie Dumas Sr.

Rickey, may your smile continue to light up heaven, may your heart continue to shine through everyone who loves you, and may your memory forever be a blessing. Though your time with us was far too short, the love, laughter, and joy you gave will live on forever. You will always be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
