Rev. Eldridge Louis White Sr., 91 passed away at his home in Hartford, MI on May 26th, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. Rev White was born on May 11th, 1929 in Hughes, Arkansas to the late Willie and Katie White.
Rev. White accepted Christ at a young age and had many talents and was active in church and community activities. He was ordained as a Pastor on April 28th, 1974 at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. H.C. Christian. He pastored his church’s Mt.Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church both in Benton Harbor, MI, and St. Paul in South Haven, MI. He was a VIP Master Mason demonstrating strength, character, and spiritual outlook. He was active in the Civil Rights movement and marched with the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this coincided with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Benton Harbor, MI. He founded and song with quartet gospel group Heavenly Wonders originating out of Hughes, AR, and later reformed in Benton Harbor, MI in 1949.
He worked for Auto Specialist in Benton Harbor, MI for many years. Over the years he actively participated in school board meetings in Covert, MI. He loved fishing, farming, hunting, singing, and preaching.
Rev. White is proceeded in death by his wife EverJene White, and his parents Willie and Katie White. Four sisters, beloved twin Sister Christian, Katie Bell, Betsie White and, Matie White. Two brothers, Willie White, and Lewis White. Five sons and one daughter Eldridge Jr, Robert, George, Christopher, Stephen White, and Barbara Carey.
He is survived by his children- Gloria White of South Bend, IN., Cleorla White of Hartford, MI., Cynthia Rivera of Chicago, IL., Daniel White of Tampa, FL., Jeremiah (Kylie) White of Covert, MI., Jason White of Niles., Sharene (Ernest) Veal of South Haven, MI., Marilyn White of South Haven, MI., Timothy (Gloria) White of Chicago, IL., Teaura White of Paw Paw, MI., Kevin White of Ft. Worth Texas, Dawn White of Kalamazoo, MI., Richard (Kathy) White of South Haven, MI., Michael (Gaby) White of Alabama, Louise Johnston of Saginaw, MI., Diane (Darnell) Pratt of Niles, MI., Anthony Taylor, of Atlanta, GA., Thellis Atkins of Atlanta, GA., Patricia Smith, Atlanta, GA., Julius (Rodney) Turner of Kalamazoo, MI., David Viverette of Atlanta, GA., and Alvin Viverette of Atlanta GA., and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends to cherish his memory. He will be missed dearly.
