Quanita (Poochie) Maria Washington was born November 26,1973 at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, MI to Verdine Washington-Smith and Walter Campbell. Quanita departed this life on Thursday, April 30th, 2026, while at Corewell Health Hospital.
Quanita attended Benton Harbor High School. After high school she worked at several restaurants Apple Bee’s, Olive Garden, and as a Teacher’s Aide at Niles elementary school. She later worked at LADD Battle Creek, MI., an adult foster care home.
Quanita became a mother at an early age with two children: Britney Washington (Fort Lauderdale, FLA.) and a son, Jonathan Jones of Benton Harbor, MI.
Quanita was an outgoing person. She loved singing and cooking and enjoying being around family and friends. She was the life of the party. She loved her family dearly, especially her mother, brother, children and grandchildren. Quanita will always be remembered for her great big, beautiful smile, kindness, and compassion she showed for others.
Quanita was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Coleman Gray. She grew up singing in the choir and was a member of The Junior Usher Board.
Quanita leaves to cherish her precious memories to her mother, Verdine Washinton-Smith and James Smith (Fort Worth, TX), her dad, Walter Campbell, of Battle Creek, MI.; brother, Taryll and Dora Q. Jones, Sr. of Benton Harbor; her children, Britney Washington and Jonathan Jones; stepbrothers, Troy (Shannon) Barnes and Jenerrald Smith; stepsister, Tamara (Derrick) Bell; two granddaughters, Ja’ Nyla King, and Mariah Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends. We will ever be indebted to her Battle Creek Family, Keeia West, Susie West, and Tanysha Johnson. Quanita was blessed with a bonus family (Wilford & Davis).
Preceding her in death are her grandparents: Mamie and Sylvester Washington; cousin: Randy Price, Jr.
