Phillip Napier Obituary

Phillip Charles Napier, a beloved Son, Brother, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend born to Teresa Napier of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Eric Sales of Niles Michigan on August 3, 1995 in St. Joseph Michigan.

Finding Christ at an early age, Phillip grew up under the pastoral leadership of Bishop-Designee Melvin Burton at Refreshing Fountains Outreach Ministry. His love of baseball started at age 4.

Phillip continued throughout childhood playing baseball eventually earning varsity letters in high school. Graduating from Benton Harbor High School on June 6, 2013, shortly after Phillip decided to join the service to serve his country. On July 23, 2013 he enlisted in the Navy assigned to the USS Boxer (LHD 4) based out of San Diego California. Earning the rank of E3, Phillip excelled as a decorated seaman. Among the many badges, ribbons, and service medals earned, Phillip also earned the distinguished campaign ribbons for Navy "E" ribbon, Navy Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, (2) Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medals, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Breast Insignia.

While serving his country during deployment Phillip served jobs such as a fire fighter, painter of the ship, and managing Star Bucks, until he eventually found what he enjoyed doing which was cutting hair. With a new passion for cutting hair Phillip went on to get his barber license in California February of 2016. Already an investor with his long time childhood friend clothing line in 2015, Phillip moved back to Benton Harbor January 2020 with aspirations and goals in mind to help his community. He quickly landed a job at a barbershop, where his plans where to eventually open his own one day. He also had plans to buy homes in his community that need fixing and to become a landlord.

Upon his untimely death Phillip leaves to cherish his memories his Mother Teresa Napier of Benton Harbor Michigan, his Father Eric Sales of Niles Michigan,Paternal Grandparents Hulon and Charlie McAfee of Niles Michigan, Sister Salena (Derrick) Lucas of Benton Harbor Michigan, a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, special friends Ja'Mal Hatfield, Lamar Badger, Da'Marco Scales, Christopher(Melissa) Cage, and a special cousin James Watson.

Phillip was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents John and Opal Napier, Uncles Larry Dean, Henry Napier, John Clevon Wilburn, and Aunts Cecillia Napier, and Lena Lucas.
