The beautiful life of Penny Denise James was born into time on June 8, 1963, in Benton Harbor, Michigan; the sweet daughter of Teola Hobbs-Johnson and Charlie Johnson Jr.

Penny married the love of her life Richard on June 8, 2002. Penny affectionately called Big Penny loved children, family and friends dearly.  She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, and was known to be one of the best cooks. 

Penny was a heartfelt caregiver. Penny took great pride in being the caregiver for her mother, Teola. For many years, Penny worked in several factories until her wonderful husband decided that it was time for his queen to stay at home.

On January 20, 2025, God called home our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Mrs. Penny Denise James.

Precious memories will forever live in the heart of her husband, Richard James Sr.; three sons Myron (Tiffany) Johnson, of Lexington, KY, Marcus (Junella) Johnson of Albion, MI, and Richard James Jr.; four daughters, Shanika (Charles) Cornelius of Indianapolis, IN, Sha’Kisha Johnson, Penny Johnson, and Tania Johnson all of Benton Harbor, MI; three brothers, Gregory Johnson, Rufus Winfield and Jasper Johnson; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Penny was preceded in death by her mother Teola Hobbs-Johnson, her father Charlie Johnson Jr., nephew Bruce Winfield, and grandson Marcus Johnson Jr.
