Otis Lee Rimpson

Otis “O Lee” Rimpson was born June 14, 1955 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was the second of twelve children born to the union of Rosetta and Ernest Rimpson Sr.   

Otis departed this life on February 5, 2021 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Otis confessed his love for Christ at an early age. He was an active choir member at Hopewell Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John A. Simmons. He later joined New Paradise Baptist Church and song in the choir under the leadership of Pastor Willie T. Burton.   Otis made his final church home Beautiful Gate Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charlie Jones Jr, where he faithfully sang in the choir until he relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Otis was a 1974 graduate from Benton Harbor High School. He worked for numerous years in construction (Fiskar Construction). He later started his own lawn care and snow plowing business. Otis had a great sense of humor, he always made people laugh. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, talking trash to everyone, listening to music, watching MSNBC and making people laugh. Although Otis loved to talk trash to everybody that came into contact with him, he had a big heart to help people.

Otis united in holy matrimony to Nadine Fair and out of their union, they were blessed with one son. After their divorced in 1980, Otis began a long time relationship with Peggy Young and they had three children.

Otis leaves to cherish all four of his children: Rodney Rimpson-Kelley of Federal Way Washington, Otis and Vanessa Rimpson of Benton Harbor, MI, and Shanita Rimpson of Indianapolis, IN. Five  grandchildren: Za’Niyah Lewis, Antonio Lewis Jr (AJ), Kylie Lewis all of Indianapolis, IN and Danielle and Denzel Rimpson of Federal Way Washington. He was also blessed with nine great grandchildren.

Father: Ernest Rimpson Sr. Four sisters: Darlene Carter and Adele Rimpson of Benton Harbor, Pamela (Carl) Dudley and Roshonda (Harold) Wiggins of Kalamazoo, MI. Four brothers: Ernest (Renee) Rimpson, Calvin and Michael Rimpson of Benton Harbor and Donald (Rhonda) Rimpson of Memphis, TN. One aunt: Annie Lenzy. One uncle: Willis Richmond. Special friend, Ronnie Lee Booker who helped Otis as his right hand man when his health began to decline. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Rosetta Rimpson and three sisters Anna Marie, Anita Rimpson and Deborah Washington.
