Olwin Magee Obituary

Born in Chicago Illinois to:  Hazel Hickey and Leo Dean Magee Sr.  Renee is cherished and missed by her children: Anthony James Magee Sr., Hossie T. Davis III and Melva (wife), Dr. Angela Terri Griffin and Ron (husband), along with grandchildren: Anthony James Magee Jr., Tyler Reese Magee, Angeley Takyi, Tiobea Takyi, Kandace Griffin, Lauryn Griffin, Chyna Davis, Jamuel Forney, niece Terrica Williams, step-brother Robert Hamilton, son-in-law, Na’Na Kwame Tio Takyi, and a family community of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Renee has been united with her parents and beloved siblings: Margaret Turner, Leo Dean Magee Jr., and Charlotte Renn and Daughter Sheila Denise Takyi

The gusty winds of Chicago carried Renee to Benton Harbor, Michigan where she blossomed as a young woman completing her education at Lake Michigan College and earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Sienna Heights University.

Renee was an active spirit with hobbies that included: roller skating, bowling, swimming, Basketball, sporting events, smooth Jazz and dancing.  She passed this spirit of engagement to her children and grandchildren.  Renee will always be remembered as the mother-cheerleader rooting her family and their teams to victory.

Renee was a woman for the people, believing in the honor to protect and serve her community.  She served Berrien County Sheriff’s Department from 1991-2013.  She dedicated her livelihood to family, Dearest friend Robert Grier, special friends Jimella Toney, Barbara Evans and the community at large.

There is a hole left not only in our hearts, but in the world as we try to transition from day to day without Renee.  She is beloved, cherished and will always be remembered for her spirit, soul and presence in our lives.  We thank her for being a reflection of our Master and Savior, we will cherish the memories, joy and laughter she leaves us.
