“In life we have pleasures with our loved ones we have sorrows and joy, but thank God for the memories death cannot destroy.”
Again, death has invaded the ranks of the Robinson Family and Greater Community Christian Fellowship Church of God In Christ. It has carried away not only a Christian woman, faithful member, loving widow, beautiful mother, precious grandmother, sister, and aunt, but a saint who heeded the scripture, working diligently in the Christian vineyard for the edification of the body of Christ.
Dignity, elegance, courage, faith-filled and strength are all words that describe Mother Dora Jean Robinson—a soft spoken prayer warrior.
Dora Jean (McNutt) Robinson, the eldest of five children was born September 15, 1941, to the late Elder Alexander McNutt Sr. and Mother Mabel (Turner) McNutt in Tupelo, Mississippi. At a very young age, Dora’s family relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan, where she received her formal education in the Benton Harbor Area Schools.
In 1962, Dora united in Holy Matrimony to her high school sweetheart, the late Nathaniel Robinson. To their union, two beautiful children were born, Ernest Allen Robinson and Traci Runata Robinson.
The beautiful quiet and gentle soul of Mother Robinson dedicated her life to Christ as evidenced by water baptism under the pastoral guidance of the late Bishop Nathaniel “Papa” Wells Sr. at Community Church of God In Christ. Dora was a true servant of the Lord. Dora served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and member of the Mothers Board, maintaining her church affiliation for 77 years, under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel Wyoming Wells Jr. and Pastor Nathaniel Wells III. Her love for the ministry remained steadfast, under the pastoral guidance of Pastor Elijah Thompson, III.
Professionally, Dora devoted more than four decades to the Benton Harbor Public School District as an administrative secretary, most notably at the Benton Harbor Gifted and Talented School. In this role, she championed educational excellence and opportunities for students, collaborating with local officials to advance community goals and positively shaping the lives of many families. Her civic leadership extended beyond her work in the school setting. Dora helped organize the Bishop Street Block Club with Dorothy Burton, spearheading neighborhood beautification, tree planting, and streetscape improvements.
A devout Christian, Dora never refused to help anyone in need and never missed an opportunity to tell others about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dora’s warmth and generosity touched countless children and families. She opened her home and heart to those she met at work, church, and in her neighborhood. Everyone who knew her remembers the empty lot next to her home that was perfect for a ball game where she gladly welcomed neighborhood children to play. Her thoughtful engagement and endorsements aided numerous community campaigns, reflecting committed citizenry and a generous spirit.
In her leisure time, Dora enjoyed gardening, walking, yoga, and Tai Chi. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society, Benton Harbor Chapter.
"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens," 2 Corinthians 5:1.
Mother Dora Jean Robinson on Monday, September 29, 2025 pulled off mortality and put on immortality, making the transition to her heavenly home at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville, MI.
