Mother Anna McCoy Obituary

Mother Anna Louise McCoy was a woman of unwavering faith, quiet strength, remarkable grace, and unconditional love for all whom she considered family. Though her voice was gentle and sweet, her presence filled every room, and her impact reached far beyond words. She possessed a rare and beautiful gift for uplifting others—encouraging, inspiring, and walking beside those she loved as they pursued their greatest potential.

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Mother Anna Louise McCoy peacefully departed this earthly life at her home in Benton Harbor, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, service, and devotion.

Born on July 4, 1936, in Wyatt, Missouri, Mother McCoy was the first child born to the union of the late James and Dicie Turner. At a young age, her family relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan, where destiny led her to meet the love of her life, the late Bishop Designee John Edward McCoy. Their love story became a testimony of faith, commitment, and partnership. They were united in holy matrimony on January 22, 1956. Together, they shared sixty-four beautiful years of marriage and ministry.

As First Lady, Mother McCoy served with humility, compassion, and steadfast dedication. Her life reflected Christ’s love, and she touched countless lives through her wisdom, prayers, and nurturing spirit.

Outside of ministry, Mother McCoy found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved cooking meals that brought family together, searching and picking fresh greens, fishing, thrifting for hidden treasures, putting puzzles together, and traveling with family and friends. Yet above all, her greatest joy was found in creating unforgettable, timeless, lasting memories with her children, generations of grandchildren, and extended family. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, comfort, and unconditional love.

Mother McCoy leaves to cherish her precious memory her six children: Etta Fulton, Beverly (Joseph) Brown, and John McCoy Jr., all of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Auxiliary Bishop Bruce (Shirley) McCoy of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Tracy McCoy-Morris of Tallahassee, Florida; and Elder LaMont McCoy of Portage, Michigan.

She also leaves two beloved goddaughters: Supervisor Marilyn (Anthony) Jones of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Jean (Earl) Rodgers of Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Her legacy continues through sixteen grandchildren, fifty-Four great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends whose lives were forever changed by her love.

Mother McCoy was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of sixty-four years, Bishop Designee John Edward McCoy; her cherished grandchildren Marquise Thompson, Gerome Randolph, Samuel Curtis, Savod Curtis, Avery Curtis, Dannell Ewing, Anthony Ewing; her sisters Emma Lee Bell-Kelly, Johnnie Mae Turner, and Rosa B. Meridy; and her brother Ray Turner.

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice knowing that Mother McCoy’s labor is complete and her crown has been earned. Her life was a testament to faith, family, perseverance, and selfless service. Her memory will continue to live on in every lesson she taught, every prayer she prayed, every meal she prepared, and every life she touched.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”   Matthew 25:23
