Monique Gordon Obituary

Monique Tonya Gordon (Ferguson) died September 26, 2023, with her family by her side in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Monique was born September 13, 1981, in Berrien Springs, Michigan to Mark Taylor and May Willie Turner (Ferguson). Her father was a truck driver and her mother served as a church nurse.

Monique spent her childhood summers with her godmother (Ollie Mae Jones), enjoying the outdoors riding her bike, and playing with dolls. She loved going to church and eating.

Monique was the eldest of seven children. No matter how far apart they were she always nurtured their personal relationships, as she loved them all. Monique believed in self-care, you would often hear her talking about how she admired her beauty and sense of fashion. Monique was outgoing, she loved telling her unfiltered jokes, singing, and dancing while being around her friends and family. She was free-spirited and loved expressing herself. She had a huge heart and everyone she encountered knew just how deeply she cared for them. As the eldest, Monique was more than just the big sister, she was the glue that kept them all together.

Monique was a member of Progressive Baptist Church where she served under the leadership of pastor James Childs.

Monique is survived by her husband, Demetrius Gordon, father, Mark Taylor, three sisters, April Turner, Brittany Ferguson, and Gabriel Cooper, three brothers, Christopher Ferguson, James Turner, and Elijah Turner, half-brother Charles Mays, God sisters, Denise Jones, Tina Whitfield, Dianne Burton, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and a special friend.

Monique was preceded in death by her mother, May Willie Turner (Ferguson).
