Michael Bennett Obituary

Michael Demetric Bennett was born December 11, 1970, at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, MI to Emma Jean Bennett and Jimmy Allison. Both parents preceded him in death. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1989 and upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and later became a truck driver until his health failed him.

Mike had a personal relationship with Christ. He often prayed for strength and healing. Mike’s greatest characteristic was love; he loved his family and friends unconditionally. Loving and trusting of all, Mike gave everyone a chance. As a young boy Mike had a very creative mind. He would take the twisty tie from a loaf of bread or aluminum foil like wrapper from a stick of gum and create his own toy soldiers.

Although Mike had some heath issues, he did not let it hold him back from enjoying friends and family. Mike loved having an enjoyable conversation with family & friends. He was a very respectful son, little brother to his big sister Cathy and a big brother to his little brother Fella. He was a great father and a hardworking truck driver that often spent time on the road providing for his family. To know Mike was to love him. You could count on Mike to be shopping in Walmart with his two youngest daughters.

Before Mike lost his courageous battle, he was able to ask if he could hold his first born and only granddaughter Eliana.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026 Mike departed this life leaving not to mourn but to cherish his fond memories: Children: Emily Mills of Florida, Dominic Kline of Coloma, MI, Shania Bennett and Aaliyah Bennett both of Benton Harbor, MI; Siblings: Cathy (Duval) Wright of Clarksville, TN; Everrett Morris III of Benton Harbor, MI;  China Williams of West Memphis, AR; Anthony MaGee of Detroit, MI; Omar Shabazz of Grand Rapids; and Destiny Burton of Benton Harbor, MI; Granddaughter: Eliana Emery Bennett.; Great Grandmother: Lillie Mae Mayfield of Benton Harbor, MI; and a host of loving aunts,  uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
