On February 7, 2024, Melvin Pullen (67), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend transitioned from this earthly home to his Heavenly home.
Melvin was born to the late Ernest and Virgina Pullen on July 17, 1956, in Chicago, IL. At an early age he moved to Benton Harbor and attended the Benton Harbor Area Schools. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. Melvin served honorably in the Marines, but decided he wanted to further his education. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Spring Auburn University. As the years passed, Melvin became a father of two handsome sons. Later, he fell in love and married his heart, Solita Stansberry-Osby, on August 8, 1998, who affectionately called him ”P”! With this union came three sons and a very special father-in-law. He loved them all as his own.
He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at St Mark Baptist Church. Melvin loved helping others, spreading God’s word, and praying for those who would accept prayer. Later, Melvin became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he became a deacon for a number of years.
Melvin’s employment included a counselor for a number of years; Director of the Salvation Army Men’s Shelter, a substitute teacher for the Benton Harbor Area Schools, a supervisor for First Chance Inc, and JVIS Manufacturing.
Loving memories will always be in the hearts of his wife Solita; Children: Rashad Carter, Don R. Alexander, Achiles (Alicia) Stansberry, Akeem Osby, and Elvis Osby; Goddaughter: Char Nese Rice; Siblings: Willie E. Pullen, Laura Watson, Napoleon Pullen, Henry Pullen, Arlene Williams, Edward Austin, Kelvin Pullen, Doris (Eric) Woodson, and Linda Austin; a special friend, Burnette Alexander; 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ernest and Vincent Pullen, one sister, Eunice Traylor, and godson, Maurice McKenzie.
