Melvin attended Calumet High School in Chicago, IL. He later relocated to Benton Harbor, MI with his family. For many years, Mel worked as a self-taught mechanic and willingly helped anyone in need. His passion for mechanic work led him to many opportunities of working with license mechanics.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter Shareeta hayes; his mother Rosie McGrew; two grandchildren, Ra’Niyah Revis and Ra’Mya Revis; his sisters, Phyllis (George) Taylor; Marie McGrew (John); a special friends, Sheila Powell and Sharon Hayes; bonus children, Quantel Powell, Nickolas Powell, and Crystal Powell; bonus grandchildren, Sheliah Powell and Phelisity Powell; nieces and nephews, Brian Randolph, Phillip McGrew, Mario McGrew, Shaqueel Hill, Shanette Smiley, Kiera Carter, Kimberly Kusph, and Marion McGrew and a host cousins and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rosetta McGrew and Johnnie McGrew.
