Maxie Lipscomb Obituary

Maxie Douglas Lipscomb was born on Friday, November 25,1949, in Marianna, Arkansas to the union of the late Exie Lee (Bennett) Valentine and Willie Lipscomb, Jr.  He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Maxie was a dedicated student with Marianna Public Schools. He graduated from Anna Strong High School in 1967 and furthered his education at Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social science. His academic journey, marked by his dedication and hard work, is a source of pride and inspiration for all who knew him. After college, he moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan, in 1971. On September 16, 1975, he married the Love of his life, Delores Creamer, and to this union, they were blessed with five wonderful children.

Maxie's faith was not just a part of his life; it was the cornerstone. He embraced Christ at an early age at New Morning Star Baptist Church under the guidance of the late Reverend AJ Ramsey. His faith only deepened, and in 1986, he was ordained as an Elder under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel Wells Jr. His unwavering dedication to his faith was a constant source of strength and comfort to those around him, a testament to his spiritual guidance.

Maxie's service to the community reflected his selfless nature. He worked for the State of Michigan in various roles. After 35 years with the State of Michigan, he retired in 1993. However, retirement didn't deter him from serving others. He started volunteering at the hospital, caring for those who could no longer care for themselves. His profound impact on the community, felt by all who knew him, was a testament to his selfless service and generosity.  He loved spending time with family and friends.  You would often hear him say, “I’m not always right, but I’m very seldom wrong.  He loved eating his favorite meal which consisted of Pepper Steak and rice prepared by his great niece Jacquetta.
