Momma Mattie was born in Hughes, AR to Mable Partee. She began her new life with Christ, March 12, 2020, at Lakeland hospital surrounded by her family. Momma Mattie rededicated her life to Christ in 2019 under the leadership of Pastor R. Chester Gulley, of the New Covenant Community Baptist Church in Benton Harbor.
Momma Mattie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was someone everyone loved and could depend on. She enjoyed dancing, eating at Golden Corral, going to the movies, playing cards, casinos, and cooking. She was employed at Benton Harbor Meijer Department Store for (10) year as a deli-clerk.
Momma Mattie leaves to cherish her legacy her four (4) daughters: Belinda (William) Melvin of Kalamazoo, MI., Shonda Edwards of Knoxville, TN., Tracy Edwards and Cynthia Young of Benton Harbor, MI. Three (3) sons: Steven Edwards of Grand Rapids, MI., Fredrick Edwards of Benton Harbor, MI., and Nicala Edwards of South Bend, IN. She also leaves 21 grandchildren: Lashica (Maurice), Sontoya, Tyquanya, Chasity, Freddie, Jasminique, Seith, SaDae, Miriah, Elijah, Aaliyah, Obviance, Ari’yonna, Quamisha, Nicala Jr., De’avion, Nycaceon, Nyceor, Jaran, Ja’kobe, Ja’Niya, and 16 great-grandchildren. Two (2) sisters: LaBerta (Lewis) Campbell of Milwaukee, WI. And Jessie (Gene) Alexander of Sontag, MS. Two (2) brothers: Charlie (Mary) McCullum of Milwaukee, WI., and Rev. Eldridge White Sr. of Covert, MI. Momma Mattie was preceded in death by her maternal mother, Mable Partee, of Benton Harbor, her late husband, Eddie Jones of Baton Rouge, LA. And her first husband, Johnny B. Edwards of Tupelo, MS. Daughter, Nedra Edwards of MS., Sisters: Ellen Christian and Ernestine Partee of Chicago, IL., mother, Pearl White, of Jonestown, MS. Granddaughter, Tenesha Edwards of Benton Harbor, and a host of other family and friends.
