Mary Helen Wright 78, affectionately known as Sue, was born December 13, 1944, to Margaret Kindred in South Bend, Indiana. She attended and graduated from Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana. She moved to Michigan in the early 1960s where she met and fell in love with Eddie Wright.
Eddie and Mary were married on May 28, 1966. Mary worked for Mercy Hospital and the Benton Harbor Area School District for a number of years. Mary loved to bowl and would be seen playing in bowling leagues in Benton Harbor.
Mary loved God and loved serving in the church. She served as the First Lady of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, MI for 27 years where Eddie served as Pastor. She sang in the Sanctuary Choir and the Celestial Choir for many years. She was also the Sunday School Secretary, a member of the Nurses Guild, and many other roles in the church. Mary loved church hats. She had a collection of over 40 hats that she would fashionably display every Sunday morning. However, she loved her husband and family the most.
On November 26, 2023, after a lengthy battle with dementia, the Lord called Mary (Sue) home to be with Him, with Eddie by her side. Mary is preceded in death by her mother Margaret Kindred and stepfather Cleophus Kilgore Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 57 years, Eddie Wright (Benton Harbor, MI), her brother, Cleophus Kilgore, Jr. (Sadie) of Milwaukee, WI, and aunt, Bertha Spruel (Willie)of Muskegon, MI. Sons: Eric Coleman (Melissa) of Portsmouth, VA. Christopher of Lansing, MI, James (Jimmy) of Benton Harbor, MI, Carlos of Little Rock, AR, Wesley (Katrina) of Camden, AR and Darrell (Martha) of Smyrna, TN. Daughters: Rose of Pine Bluff, AR, and Shantel of Benton Harbor, MI.
Mary also leaves to cherish her memory 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
