Martha Wright Obituary

Martha “Sue” Wright faithfully served her Lord and others throughout her life. On January 16, 2026, she departed this earth to be with Him, hearing the words:

“Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share your master’s happiness.”  Matthew 25:23

She lived her life with grace and compassion, leaving behind a legacy of love that will be cherished always.

Martha “Sue” Wright was born on June 27, 1953, in Sunflower, Mississippi, to Ethleen Sims and James Wright. In pursuit of better opportunities, her mother later moved her and her siblings to Benton Harbor, Michigan, in the fall of 1953, where they would grow, learn and be introduced to new experiences.  During the early 1960s, Sue attended Sterne Brunson School located on Columbus Street at the time.  She continued her education at Benton Harbor Junior High School and Benton Harbor High School.

Sue was introduced to Christ at an early age, and her faith remained the cornerstone of her life. Her children fondly remember her white Bible, always placed at the center of the living room table-a symbol of her devotion to God and her family. She became a member of Greater Community Christian Fellowship, where she worshiped and served under the leadership of the late Pastor Nathaniel Wells III. Her commitment to her church and family was steadfast, leaving a legacy of love, service, and faith that has continued throughout generations.

Sue was employed through Zenith Data Systems, where she was known not only for her dedication and reliability, but also for the genuine care she brought to her work each day. She took great pride in what she did and found meaning in supporting those around her, always willing to lend a hand or offer encouragement.

Sue enjoyed the outdoors and cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She had a passion for cooking and dancing and her presence brought light to every room she entered. No matter the occasion, she was often remembered for her infectious laugh and her signature all-white attire.

For many years, Sue served as an advocate for her children and those around her. Her grandchildren were her heart, and she took great joy and pride in being an active, loving presence in their lives. She cared deeply for the needs, rights, and well-being of others, offering guidance, protection, and encouragement, and ensuring their voices were heard, boldly and without fear.

She leaves to cherish her loving children: Sherice (Brian) Davis of Arizona; Connell Wright, Tracie Wright, Kenyatta (Jywanza) Wilson, Donell Wright, and Kori Wright, all of Benton Harbor, Michigan. She is also survived by her siblings: William (Moon)Wright, Danny Wright, Larry Sims Jr. , Tony Sims, Timmy Sims, and Sheila (Lee) Jones, all of Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Sue was a proud and devoted grandmother to 23 grandchildren: Kassie, Jayla, Jywanna, Tevin, Jywanza, Corey, Connell, Jaymmie, Aaron, Janiya, Kori, Ni’Jaya, Chanel, Justin, Jasmine, Teriana, Brooklyn, Jayda, Daron , Jakyra, Kori, Justin, and Kenzei; and 31 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and her long time partner, Issac Parker, along with many other loving relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her great grandmother, Mary Bell Macintosh, grandmother, Sylvia (Madea) Macintosh; grandfather, George Trotter, her mother, Etheleen Sims; her brother, James (Byia)Wright; her sisters, Sylvia “Jean” Wright and Joyce “Ann” Pitchford; her aunt, Coreen Doss; her cousins, Marsha Thomas and Coreena Henry; and her great-niece, Mia Sims.

Sue’s life and memory will continue to live on through those who loved her. Her presence will be missed, and her contributions will not be forgotten. She will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
