Sis. Marilyn Elaine Booker
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)
The earthly life of Sis. Marilyn Elaine Booker suddenly came to an end on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Marilyn was born on August 11, 1957, to the late James Jr. and Alvira Booker in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
Marilyn’s work ethic and genuine desire to help all walks of life led her to over 40 years of service in the banking, medical, and public service industry. Marilyn’s “decent and in order” mantra touched many lives over the years and will continue to have an impact for decades to come. Marilyn found joy in serving the Lord through her work with His people and faithfully did it with a beautiful Christian Spirit and a joy that was felt in the hearts of all those she came in contact with. The students in her Sunday School Class looked forward to the “homework” given to be certain they clearly understood the lesson and their relationship with the Master.
Her formal schooling was completed in 1976 as a proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School! Marilyn’s thirst for knowledge pushed her to attend Lake Michigan College….and numerous classes of Continued Education. She was a strong advocate for furthering your education. Her membership at New Bethel is longer than we can remember! She served in the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Secretary to Pastor Milton McAfee until his home going and continued as Secretary to Pastor Maurice McAfee; Captain of the Genesis Team; and the Secretary for the Finance Committee. With all of these positions, Marilyn was known for her faithfulness and her dependability to give the best of service!
Loving memories will always be in the hearts of those she left behind: her son, Jeffrey Booker, New York, NY; Siblings: Walter Dokes (Glenda) Coloma, MI; Donald Booker (Barbara) Benton Harbor, MI; Ronald Booker (Patricia) South Bend, IN; Beverly Booker (Preston), Grand Rapids, MI; Christina Booker, Benton Harbor, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ivy and Bertha Austin; parents, James Jr. and Alvira Booker; a niece: Dominique Haynes; 2 nephews: Ja’Michael and Nathan Rivera.
Our beloved “Elaine” fought a good fight…she finished her course and kept the faith and there is a crown of righteousness awaiting her. Her earthly life has ended but her legacy lives on.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saint. Psalm 116:15
