Maggie Clark Obituary

Mother Maggie Mae (Hunt) Clark was born on August 9, 1930, in Tiptonville, TN to the union of Gertha (Smith) Hunt and Richard Hunt.  She departed this life on December 2nd, 2024, quietly at home, surrounded by family.

She accepted Christ at an early age at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist church in Hernando, Mississippi.

She was married Toscanella Askew, II in 1947 and to that union were born four (4) children.  The family relocated to Benton Harbor, MI in 1952 where she dedicated her life to raising her children until 1973 and relocated to Chicago, IL.  While living there she met and united in holy matrimony to John Moses Clark in 1979 and they were married until his death in 2006.  Mag worked as an LPN and a Radiology Technician at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Hospital where she retired in 1993 after 22 years of service.

After the death of her husband, John, Mag relocated to this area to be near her family.  She then became a member of the Ark of the Covenant Church under the leadership of Sr. Pastor, Roy C. Askew, Sr. and served on the Mothers’ Board until her health began to fail. Mag was a very fun loving, people loving person, with an infectious sense of humor and loved her family unconditionally.

She leaves to cherish her memory three (3) sons: Willie (Laverne) Askew, Sr. of South Haven, MI; Roy (Cathie) Askew, Sr. of Benton Harbor, MI; Toscanella (Sharon) Askew, III of Charlotte, NC; one daughter:  Jackie, of South Bend, IN; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, her church family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents-Richard and Gertha Hunt, her husband John Clark, her daughter-in-law-Helena Askew, her granddaughter Alicia Askew and her sister-Mamie Lee Brack.
