Mother Maebell Powell born July 9, 1936, in Memphis Tenn. to the late Oscar Jackson Sr. and Gertrude Lily Moore.
Mother Powell was the wife of the late Minister Albert Powell Sr. for 58 years and the mother of eight children whom she taught the "golden rule" as her mom would do for her and her sibling. Mother Powell worked several years domestically. She was also employed as Press Operator at Betty's Cleaner on Fair Ave here in Benton Harbor.
She loved God, Family, and the Church even before sanctification she wanted a good moral life for herself and family. In the early seventies, Mother Powell along with her late husband joined McCoy Temple C.O.G.I.C. where they were saved, sanctified and filled with the holy ghost.The family not long after would join the Reed Temple C.O.G.I.C where she served faithfully as Church Mother from 1974-1998 with a continued faithfulness until her health failed.
On March 11, 2020, Mother Powell answered the call from labor to reward. She had 8 children James Jackson (Leah), Josephine Edwards (deceased), Brenda Powell, of Benton Harbor MI. Kelvin Powell, of Stevensville MI., Melvin Powell, of Miami FL. Albert Powell Jr., of Benton Harbor MI., Jane Williams of Romulus, MI and Carol McTear of Ferndale MI. 22 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews and a wonderful church family. Mother Powell was preceded in death by her husband Min. Albert Powell, daughter Josephine Edwards, (3) brothers Coris Cooper Jr., Oscar Jackson Sr., and Eugene Cooper Sr., (2) sisters Artis Marie Kimble and Ruthie Mae Watson.
