Linda Faye (McMillion) Brown

Linda Faye (McMillion) Brown was born on September 21, 1966 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Her loving parents Thomas and Ola (Stevens) McMillion encouraged and supported her love for athletics. Linda was involved in recreational sports, such as, track, softball, volleyball and basketball. But, her fondness for track caused her to solely focus on this sport. She was inspired by her older sister Camelia (Niecy) who was a previous track standout to follow this passion. While attending Benton Harbor High School, Linda excelled in track and was a vital team member of the Lady Tigers. In 1984, the Lady Tigers won the state championship. Linda competed in the 220 run, 440 relay, 400 relay, and 880 relay. At this competition, she and her teammates set state records in all three relays which still stand today. Linda also graduated that same year from Benton Harbor High School. While in high school, she worked at Bosch, formerly Bendix. She was granted a track scholarship to Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois where she became a member of the Red Birds girls track team. Linda expanded her educational endeavors by taking additional courses at Lake Michigan College, Benton Harbor, Michigan.

While home from college, Linda met Charles Brown, Sr. and became engaged. They were joined in marriage on July 26, 1997. From this union, they welcomed their son, Charles, Jr. and daughter, Octavia. Linda and her family relocated to Augusta, Georgia. She committed her life to Christ and became an active member of Good Hope Baptist Church. She faithfully served in various positions within the church. Prior to her membership with Good Hope Baptist Church, she was a dedicated member of Hopewell Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend John Simmons. She later united with Greater Grace Temple where Bishop George Dewberry pastors. Linda sang in the gospel group Harmoness with members: Ricky, Danny, Martha and Debra. She acquired her singing abilities from her dad. Linda was employed at the Washington State Prison in Davisboro, Georgia. She worked as a Correctional Officer until her retirement. During retirement, Linda spent time shopping and cooking. She took great pride in the way she dressed, she was a fashionista. Linda was an incredible cook and specialized in preparing amazing gumbo. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her adorable grandchildren:  Bonita, Marquis, Mckell, Jaylen, Micah, Tyionna, Isaiah and Mariona. 

Linda often visited Michigan; she, her mother and sister, Barbara would attend service at Greater Grace Church. She enjoyed Bishop Dewberry’s electrifying sermons. She and Barbara often spent time singing and sharing the word of God. When she visited Detroit, she and her sister Camelia shopped until the department stores closed. She had a special passion for her sister April and was always finding unique ways to communicate with her. Linda’s two brothers, Thomas, Jr. and Ricky were her protectors. Linda took great pleasure in the personal time she spent with her mother.

 Linda was preceded in death by her beloved father, Thomas McMillion, Sr. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by: Charles Brown, Sr.; children: Charles Brown, Jr., and Octavia Brown, Augusta, Georgia; loving mother: Ola (Stevens) McMillion, Benton Harbor, Michigan; two brothers: Thomas McMillion, Jr., and Ricky McMillion, Benton Harbor, Michigan; three sisters: Camelia McMillion, Detroit, Michigan, Barbara McMillion and April McMillion, Benton Harbor, Michigan; eight grandchildren: Bonita Curry, Marquis Frederick, Mckell Frederick, Jaylen Brown, Micah Brown, Tyionna Brown, Isaiah Brown, and Mariona Williams, Augusta, Georgia; Godparents, John and Irene Woodley; special friends: Sandra (Rice) Abrams, Virginia (Reece) Turner, Benton Harbor, Michigan, Denise Armstrong, Augusta Georgia; 14 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
