Leguster Hunter Obituary

Leguster Hunter 67, was born in Crenshaw Mississippi to Effie Jean Collier and Willie Calvin on September 27, 1954, and departed this life on August 14, 2022, at home, surrounded by family. In 1958, she was blessed with a bonus dad, John Lee Coleman, from the union of Effie.

She was a delightful gift to her great-grandparents, also known as “Mom and Dad”. She attended North Panola High School in Sardis, Mississippi where she dominated as a star athlete in all sports and held a track record until the 1990s. Lee moved to Michigan in the late 60s. Shortly after, she married and mothered two children, Kim and Demetrius, with ex-husband Freddie Hunter. Lee worked in the factory industry for over 25 years, with 15 of those at Bohn Aluminum stationed in South Haven, Michigan. Lee was a former member of St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Elbert Brown. She sang in the choir, ushered, worked in the kitchen, and helped with children and events. Lee also became the care taker for her son for many years.

Before passing, she was a member of Abundant Life COGIC under the fellowship of Supt. Duane L. Seats II where she helped start the community garden. In her leisure time, she liked to listen to music, read her bible, and watch TV Land. She also loved to bake as she was commonly known for her Carmel cake, banana pudding, and sausage patties. She was loving, compassionate, humble, understanding, generous, and reliable, which she showed to all who encountered her. “If no one was coming, we knew granny was coming.” She blessed us with unconditional love, support, and laughter. OH! So much laughter. She was one of few who could still bike ride, race, dance, and hoop with the best of us.

Lee’s memories will always be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory in the hearts of her dad, John Lee Coleman; her children, Kimberly and “favorite” son in-law Roy Huddleston, Demetrius and Sheleka Hunter; seven siblings, John Allen, Tony, Carolyn, Vera, Janice, Terrel, and Gregory Coleman; cousin/sister, Lois Linzy;  five grandchildren, Roy Jr. III, Jarquel, Demesha, Leonna, and Kevisha; six great-grandkids, Amiya, Jahmai, Jarquel Jr., Jayquel, Roy IV, and Royelle, along with a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Lonzo and Effie Williams; grandmother, Ida Lee Collier; her mother, Effie Jean Coleman; uncle, Lonzo Collier, aunt Even Pratcher; brother, Kenneth Coleman; life partner of 25 years, Jerry Warner and a nephew, Gregory Coleman II.

John 11:25- Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.
