Lee Earnest Childs

Our Dear Lee Earnest Childs was born, June 22, 1948, in Egypt, MS to the union of O. C. and Susie Childs; he was the 2nd born of 12 children. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School Class of 1968 in the city of Benton Harbor Michigan where he was a legendary track star!

 In 1969 He joined the United States Air Force where He served until he retired as a Master Sargent in 1989

Lee accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Redbud Baptist Church in Egypt, Mississippi.  After moving to Benton Harbor, MI, in 1959, Lee joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Dr. Daniel Edward Cook.

On March 16, 1972, Lee united in matrimony to the love of his life Linda to this union two children were born Ronnell and Sheronda dearly known as “Bump”. At the time of his departure from this earth, they shared 49 years of marriage. They traveled the world together while he served in the U.S. Air Force. Lee loved to travel after years in Michigan he made his final destination Las Vegas, NV, where he gave his life back to Christ before he made his transition to his final resting place.

Lee was a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Grand-Father, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory to The Love of His Life Linda Childs, 2 children Ronnell (Janell) Childs of Indianapolis, IN, Sheronda (Anthony) Jones of Las Vegas, NV, 6 grandchildren- Chantone, Brielle, Nasiah, Charis, Arielle, and Hiren. 11 siblings Johnny (Gwen) Childs of Kalamazoo, MI, Mary (Jameel) Jabbaar of Salibury, MD, Georgia, (Al) Matthews of Corona, CA, Mattie Childs of Battle Creek, MI, Don (Barbara) Childs of Lansing, MI, Rev. James (Annie) Childs of Benton Harbor, MI, Marie Childs of Lansing, MI, Gregory (Jackie) Childs of Tucson, AZ, Jeanette Childs of Lansing, MI, Corey (Tiaisha) Childs, Nicole Childs all of Columbus, OH. 5 step siblings Terry Lee Edwards of Madison, IL, Felicia Brown of University Park, IL; Ondrei Edwards of Muskegon, MI; Todd Eugene (Michele) Edwards of Madison, IL; Johnnie T. (Sheryl) Edwards of Benton Harbor, MI.
Special Brother-in-Law Elmer (Gaynell) Williams and, Sister in Laws Levon Moore, Jackie Kellum, and Vera Kellum.

A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.

Lee was proceeded in death by his Father O.C. Childs, Mother Susie Childs, Grandmother Chane Vance, Stepmother Martha Childs, and Nephew Marcus Osby
