The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord
is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1.
A life of love and service is to be celebrated never mourned. Such a life began when Katie M Jefferson (the fifth of eight children) was born to Annie and Luther Jefferson on November 25, 1940, in Columbia, Mississippi.
Katie accepted Christ at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Spates. She remained an active member of that church until her departure from Mississippi.
Katie completed her secondary education at John J. Jefferson High School in Columbia, Mississippi. While attending Prentiss Junior College in Prentiss, Mississippi she was crowned “Miss Prentiss Junior College.” During Katie’s last semester at Jackson State University, she married and moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan and through that marriage, Signora Patterson was born. Years later, she met and Married James Roseburgh and Roderick, and Fredrick were born.
Katie was one of the first members of Bread of Life Missionary Baptist Church from its organization. She served in many capacities from Clerk to Interior Decorator to Kitchen Manager. Under her supervision, they hosted many awesome church dinners enjoyed by many. Katie was a champion for her Pastor and First Lady.
Katie was Assistant Manager of Country Kitchen Restaurant, Benton Harbor where she was referred to as “Miss Katie” by those she worked with. Katie retired after many years.
Katie assisted Minister Bruce in starting the Hands Up Food Ministry program that provided free food for anyone in need on Saturday mornings. She was a kind, friendly, and generous person who would give freely of her time, resources, or food to anyone who needed it.
