Katie M. (Cooper) Powell

Katie Mae Cooper Powell, 86 of Benton Harbor, departed this life at home surrounded by her family on January 4, 2026. 

Katie was born May 22, 1939, to the union of Emma and Elijah Cooper, in Hayti, Missouri. She went to School in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and accepted Christ at a young. Age

Katie married, Hurtis Lee Powell on Aug 18,1961 and was A member of Second Baptist Church for over 40 Years. Katie worked at VM in Benton Harbor, Hollys Landing, St. Joeseph and Home Health Care, Benton Harbor. She took pleasure in gardening, listening to gospel music, sewing, spending time with family, shopping and creating art.

Katie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Sheila Powell and Hurtis (Essie) Cooper; siblings,  Billy (Dora) Cooper, Kenny (Gail) Cooper, Betty Cooper, and Josephine (Harold) Scott; 22 grandchildren; 104 great grandchildren; special grandson, Quantel Powell; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Katie is preceded in death by her children: Kateia Powell, Ricky Powell, Laurie James, Floyd Cooper, and Elvis Cooper; siblings, Joe Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Esau Cooper, Rosie Powell Deborah Davis.
