Kathy (Bell-Jones) Johnson was born on June 9, 1955 on a beautiful sunny day in Benton Harbor MI to Tim and Rozella Bell. We believed because the day was so sunny and bright was the reason she loved the color yellow. Kathy professed a hope in Christ at an early age, she was a very active member, singing in the choir and often times helping to organize church programs such as midnight musicals and youth day services. We remember the one song that was special to her which she lead and often could be heard singing, “I love to praise Him, I love to praise the Lord”. After leaving Benton Harbor, she became a member of several churches including First United in Kalamazoo MI where she taught Sunday school and could be found with a smile and a piece of candy for the children. She later joined Ebenezer in Benton Harbor but her health often times prevented her from actively attending but she never neglected to send her “tithes” but her heart was with New Paradise which she considered her “family” church.
Kathy worked for the Benton Harbor Area School system in various capacities for many years and a dietitian aide at Mercy Hospital.
Kathy met and married Alfred Jones, Sr. to this union a son was born. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Alfred Jones, Jr., who resides in Indianapolis, IN. and a granddaughter, Eden Rose of Texas, siblings, Sheila (Frank) Hawkins of West Memphis, AR,; and Rosemary Cooper, Indianapolis, IN. She has a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that will miss her dearly. They will always remember the calls, prayers and words of encouragement that they were sure to get from their “Aunt Kathy”. Her words of “I don’t want nothing, I was just thinking about you” will be missed. To the family, remember to call and encourage each other in honor of her.
At the tender age of 10, her Uncle Dan and Aunt Annie Mae added her and her siblings to their brood making the household a total of ten. She will also be missed by her brother/cousins Alvin and Rev. Danny Hall of Seminole, OK and sister/cousins, Deborah Hall of Benton Harbor and Pamela Hall-Webb of Lansing MI and bother-in-laws, George Miles, South Bend, IN and Nate Webb of Lansing, MI. They had so many children until the church family often couldn’t remember which were cousins and which were siblings. The girls were often seen as triplets as they were so close in ages they were often dressed alike just in different colors. We all have fond memories of our family at Silver Beach, the House of David and great fun living “out east”. In her final months, Pam moved her to Lansing, who the family called, “her own guardian angel”.
She was preceded in death by her biological parents, her Uncle Dan and Aunt Annie Mae Hall, deceased brother, Randy Bell and sister/cousin Ruth Miles.
The family wish to express their sincere thanks for the cards, calls, donations, flowers and most of all your presence today. Special thanks to Edith and Everett Killins for always being there for Lil Al. Our chain has been broken, and we will weep for a little while…until we link again.
