Juanita Williams Obituary

Juanita Williams, 70, passed away on June 7, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family. Juanita came to the end of her journey and God welcomed her home into Heaven to rest in his presence.

Juanita was born on January 1, 1950, in Sikeston, Missouri to the union of the late Curtis and Willie Augusta Williams. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1969 and she attended Lake Michigan College pursuing a career in education where she received her Associate in Arts Degree in Education. She later transferred to Western Michigan University and graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

Juanita worked at Benton Harbor Area Schools and retired from there after 30 years of service. She taught over the years as a Kindergarten and first-grade teacher at Hull Elementary and Sterne Brunson Elementary. She was also a member of the Michigan Education Association.

She enjoyed writing and drawing children’s books and songs. She had several of her children's books published and had one of her songs recorded “Don’t let the Devil fool you.” Juanita loved to spoil her nieces and nephews. Juanita always said the happiest day of her life was when she went Kayaking with her Econ class at Sarett Nature Center. She said, “I never laugh so hard in my life.” Juanita was a Christian and loved the Lord and his son Jesus with all her heart and soul.

Juanita is survived by her two sisters, Helen Williams and Denise Williams of Benton Harbor, Michigan. Her uncle James (Gladys) Daniel and Aunt Bessie Henderson both of Chicago, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special friend Shirley Thomas of Benton Harbor.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents Curtis and Willie Augusta Williams. Sisters Lavonia Annie Davis, Marlene Williams, Charlene Williams, Clara Horton, and Emma Williams. Brothers Oscar Davis, Hugh Davis, and Dennis Williams and beloved niece Brittney Williams and longtime childhood friend Suzanne Isom.
