Juanita Jennings Obituary

Juanita Jennings was born on October 30, 1940, in Coahoma County, Mississippi, to the late Sammie Caffey and Mae C. Caffey. She was lovingly reared under the godly influence of her grandmother, Ruby Evans, who was known for her strong holiness teachings and devoted lifestyle, which shaped Juanita’s faith and walk with God.

During her younger years in Mississippi, Juanita was a faithful member of the True Tabernacle Church of the First Born. After relocating to Benton Harbor, Michigan, she became a member of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop Howard Thomas. She later united with Abundant Life Church of God in Christ, where she remained a devoted and faithful member under the pastoral leadership of Superintendent Duane L. Seats, II. She served with dedication as a member of the Mother’s Board and held a deep love and appreciation for her pastor and his wife.

Juanita received her education through the Coahoma Public School System. She later married Sylvester Jennings, and together they moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan. Their marriage of thirty-nine years was blessed with three children: Ivy Jennings, Sylvester Jennings, and Rodney (Effiany) Jennings. Her beloved husband, Sylvester Jennings, preceded her in death. She was also a devoted grandmother to Danny “Tae Tae” Jennings, who was lovingly reared as her son. Danny affectionally called his grandmother “Mama”. She also had unconditional love for her grandchildren, Layla Jennings, Amara Jennings, Benaya Hill, Codi Butler, Sidnee Jennings, Amiyah Jennings, Amoria Sesson, and her god-daughter, Cheryl Dukes.

Juanita was a long-time, faithful employee of Whirlpool Corporation and later retired after years of dedicated service.

She was known for her great sense of humor and her love for talking, laughing, and fellowshipping with family and friends. She was the historian of the family. Juanita cherished her family deeply and shared especially close bonds with her siblings, Adell Hickmon, Jr. and Michael Hickmon, Sr. She shared an unbreakable bond with her younger brother, Supt. Michael

C. Hickmon, whose steadfast love and devotion never wavered. During her most difficult times, she desired and found comfort in having him faithfully by her side. Juanita also shared a special sister-like bond with her cousins, Geraldine Liner and Odessa Coggins, who grew up together as fun-loving sisters.

She was preceded in death by a loving grandmother, Ruby Evans, her devoted parents, Sammie and Mae C. Caffey, her dedicated husband, Sylvester Jennings, Sr., and her humorous brother Adell Hickmon, Jr.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and service to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Her life was a blessing to many, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
