Joseph Brown Obituary

With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of Joseph Darnell Brown, who peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on April 22, 2025.

Born on October 7, 1961, to the late Emmanuel “Mack” Brown and Adine Brown, Joseph was the youngest of eight children. A man of immense talent and heart, Joseph lived a life filled with passion, creativity, and joy. He was a certified chef, known for his mastery of gourmet cuisine, and he generously shared his culinary gifts with others.

Joseph was the lead singer of the band "Work In Progress," where his rich, melodious voice captivated audiences. A gifted comedian and entertainer, he was a natural performer whose laughter and light touched everyone around him.

In every sense, Joseph was a man of many talents—truly, one whom God entrusted with much. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: fishing, dancing, and singing. Whether on stage or at a family gathering, he brought warmth, humor, and heart to every moment.

Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, LaTonya Brown, who passed away in July 2024. Their enduring love was a beautiful testament to faith, partnership, and joy.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his legacy:
his six sisters – Linda Page, Cathy Weatherspoon, Elaine Jones, Lorraine Whitt, Effie Brown, and Doris McIntosh; his brother, Emmanuel “Mack” Brown, Jr.; his beloved mother-in-love, Lueceal Mason; and his two brothers-in-love, Roderic C. Townes and Jamane E. Mason.

Joseph also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends, each of whom carries with them a piece of his laughter, kindness, and unmistakable voice.

We will miss his melodious voice, his joyful presence, and the love he gave so freely. Though our hearts grieve, we rejoice in knowing he is now singing among the angels.

“Well done, good and faithful servant…”
Rest peacefully, Joseph.
