John M. “Peter Pan” Turner-Bey Sr. 68, of Benton Harbor Michigan transitioned on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at his oldest daughter home in South Bend Indiana with his family by his side.

“Peter Pan” as he was affectionately known as was the 9th child of 12 children born to the union of The Late Wallace A. Turner Sr. and the late Iria L. (Davis) Turner was born on April 28, 1953, at Mercy Hospital Benton Harbor Michigan.

John attended Benton Harbor High School where he Graduated Top of his class. After high school, he served in the United States Army defending our country for 4 years until he was medically discharged. After Leaving the Military John came home and fathered a beautiful daughter with Estella Jenkins White and later married the late  Kim Renee (Bolden) Turner to their union John and Kim had another beautiful daughter and 2 handsome sons. 

John was also a Member of the Progressive Baptist Church but later joined New Bethel Baptist Church all of Benton Harbor MI. John was also brother to the Muslims. He enjoyed studying his Holy Koran.  John had the honor of attending The Million Man, March with a couple of his best friends looking for a way to make change for the better.

John worked Construction at Consumers Asphalt in Benton Harbor MI. John was a basketball coach at Calvin Britain School & Highland Projects Community Center all Benton Harbor MI. John was an excellent fisherman he loved the water. John traveled the world never missing an opportunity to push a little harder for tomorrow. John always made u feel like u were a part of his family. His Favorite song was Share My Life (KEM) which he did with everyone he met. John took on the role as “Uncle Pan/ Paw-Paw/ Granddaddy to numerous youths everywhere he went.

John leaves cherished memories by daughters Letitia (TC) White of South Bend IN, Ms. Meitta E. “Pumpkin “Turner of Mobile Alabama, LaTrese Brooks of Sun Prairie WI, sons Herbert A. Turner of Benton Harbor MI, David Whitelow Jr. of Memphis TN. His Favorite Niece Mrs. Iria L. (Turner) Hardin of Benton Harbor Mi. favorite cousin / nephew, Marchal “Gerald” Seuell of South Bend, IN;   5 Grandson’s Micheal Allen, Devin Q. Goodwin, Shauntae D. Hill Jr., Davion D.T. Turner A’ MonTae Brooks. 5 Granddaughters Quonesha Tukes, Ve’licia J. Turner, Q’miyah A. Turner-Lee, A’moni Brooks, A’montae Brooks Jr., A’maryien Jackson. Special friend Vallerie Brooks 5 godchildren Tamea London, Cam London, Shanikqa Brown, Ebony Butler, Crystal Butler; 

 A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom John loved dearly.

John was preceded in death by his father Wallace Turner, and mother Iria Turner, son John Turner Jr., 8 Sisters Dorothy McGinnis, Benoria Seuell, Roxanne Turner, Ida Turner, Rosie Lee Moore, Pasty Ann Brooks, Reggie “Susie” Turner, Ara Montgomery 3 Brothers Wallace Turner Jr., Elmer Turner, and Jerry Turner, 1 grandson Donnell Q. Word Jr. 1 great-grandson Montez I.C. Brooks.
