John fought a good fight until August 8, 2022, at home surrounded by his family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He worked at Center Line in Grand Rapids until his health failed. John was born to the late John Douglas Poindexter II and Phineelasteen (Barbara) McKenzie. John attended Benton Harbor High School in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was one of ten children.
John was married to Yolanda Bradley-Poindexter. Together they created Johnae Poindexter of South Bend, Indiana, a bonus son, Thaddeaus Bradley of Kalamazoo, Michigan. John’s loving children Camerin Poindexter of Benton Harbor, Michigan, De’Ja Johnson of South Bend, Indiana, Cariah Pringle of Flint, Michigan, John”Tae Poindexter, Syriana Hodges, Markale McCoy all of Grand Rapids, Michigan. One godson, Tyrone Foster of Benton Harbor, Michigan. His sisters Cindy Henry, Vickie (Jeff) Brown, Karol Poindexter all of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Beverly (Keith) Davis of Maricopa, Arizona, Barbara (James) York of Berrien Springs, Michigan, Terri Poindexter of Los Angeles, California. His brothers Jerome (Elba) Windmon of Buckeye, Arizona, Barry Windmon of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Randy Windmon of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Gary (Toni) Poindexter of Berrien Springs, Michigan. A special friend Marquis “Boogie” Jushia of Grand Rapids, Michigan, 3 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great/ great-great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles as well as cousins.
John absolutely loved spending time with his family. He loved cooking, especially firing up the grill to cook and feed anyone who was hungry. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and playing softball. He was an avid motorcyclist and rode with Midnight Riders, and later with Naptown Riders.
John was preceded in death by siblings Richard Poindexter and Donna Poindexter. Maternal grandmother Willie Mae King and uncle Harold Foster.
