Joe Henry Peet was born on July 20, 1950, the fifth of nine siblings, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Christine Peet, Sr. in Clarkedale, AR. He accepted Christ and attended church at an early age. In 1969, he graduated from J.S. Phelix High School in Marion, Arkansas. At the age of 18 years of age, he relocated from Marion, Arkansas to Benton Harbor, Michigan, and was employed at Anstey Foundry in Stevensville, MI. In 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army branch of service during the Vietnam War. He completed his basic training at Fort Polk, LA on November 17, 1970. After completing his basic training, Joe was stationed in Baumholder, Germany until being honorably discharged as a Specialist E4 on October 8, 1972. On July 24, 1982, Joe Peet married the former Brenda Woods Peet in Benton Harbor, MI. To this union, one child was born Sgt. Derrick La’Shon Peet formerly of the U.S. Marine Corps. Also, he had two lovely daughters, Jaqueland Booker and Casanda Booker. Joe was an active and dedicated member serving in various roles as a deacon, usher, Pathfinder club leader, volunteer at the local Soup Kitchen, and member of the men’s ministry at the Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Joe was a mold maker at Anstey Foundry in Stevensville, MI. He served faithfully as the president of local UAW 1230 for many years. He was employed at Anstey Foundry for 32 years. Upon leaving Anstey Foundry, he was employed at Bosch Braking Systems, and then he went on to work part-time at Coldwell Banker Advantage on Lakeshore Dr. in St. Joseph, MI under the leadership of Vicki Wade. Joe was a devoted worker there and was well-known as her “work husband” because he worked in many capacities of the firm. Concurrently, he worked at Lincoln Elementary School in St. Joseph, MI. He was well-loved by all of the faculty, staff, and students. Together, he worked a combined total of 10 years at Coldwell Banker Advantage and Lincoln Elementary School. Also, he was employed as a custodian at Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church before retiring in 2017.

Joe was also a loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He never met a stranger. Joe was always willing to help his family, friends, and anyone who needed help. He was very devoted to his wife and family. He was faithful in serving the Lord. He loved cooking and barbecuing, and he also loved deejaying and music, and he loved men’s fashionwear dressing to the “T”, but ready for service to others in any way that was needed. He also loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was part of the hometown group the “Arkansas Connection.” He was always taught hard work ethics and values at an early age from his parents. He loved his children and grandchildren. In the summer of 1993, Joe was baptized into the Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Benton Harbor, MI under the leadership of former pastor Dr. Jaspine Bilima.
