Jimmy Lee McCoy departed this life on December 15, 2020, at his residents with his wife at his bedside.
Jimmy was born to Le’miah and Luella McCoy on September 16, 1936, in Tyronza, Arkansas. He moved to Michigan with his Parents in 1944. Jimmy was a proud 1957 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. He was a 2x Golden Glove Boxing Champion…many considered his hands as “lethal weapons”.
Jimmy served our country and gained the rank as SP4 E-4 while stationed in Vernou, France He was released from Active duties to Army Reserves and completed his military obligations to the U.S. Army. During his service with the U. S. Army, he met and married the mother of his 5 sons: Jimmy Lee McCoy Jr., Christy Allen McCoy, Gregory and Jeffery McCoy, and Eric Luther ‘Loopy” McCoy.
Jimmy had a passion for fishing and love it. During his lifetime he was a hard worker, and He was employed at Superior Steel as a Union Rep. and Financial Secretary. He also worked at Weil-McClain Manufacture from which he retired. Jimmy worked for many years at Angelo’s Party and Liquor Store.
Jimmy met the love of his life Cora Mae Williams and they were united in holy matrimony in 1989. From that 31-year union 3 Step – Children became family: Northern Williams Jr., Doris Brister, and Anagatto Burnett.
Jimmy Lee gave his life to the Lord at Community COGIC under the leadership of Nathaniel (Papa) Wells Sr., and proudly served under the leadership of the Late Bishop N.W. Wells Jr.; He served on the Deacon’s Board under the Pastorage of Nathaniel Wells III until his health failed.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, a Sister Josephine Thomas; brothers: Phillip, Lee David Sr., Jeremiah, Sr., Wilbert, Mozell, Lee, Jr., and Alvin McCoy; one Son Jeffery. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: His wife, Cora; 7 children: Jimmy (Georgette) of Chicago, IL; Christy Allen of California; Gregory (Sheila) of Stevensville; Erick (Katrina), Florida; Anagatto Burnett (Rodney Brazil) of Georgia; His Siblings, Bernice Newman of Chicago, Il. Albert (Emma) McCoy of Georgia, Delores Coleman, Marilyn York, Alfreda McCoy, and Alex (Geraldine) McCoy of Benton Harbor, MI; 31 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends. Jimmy Lee will be missed but never forgotten!!!!!!
