Jerome Atkins (60) was born August 18, 1963, in Dyersburg Tennessee to the Union of Deroy Atkins and Rosie Razor. He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Jerome moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan at the age of 4 years old with his parents where he attended Benton Harbor Area Schools.
Jerome joined Christian Light Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. Leonard Robinson. He was an outgoing person who loved to be around family and friends. If there were a joke to be made, he was always on it. Fishing was also a passion of his. We can never forget, the love he had for nice cars with music beating so loud that you could hear it a mile away.
He will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him, his father. Deroy Atkins of Detroit, MI; Mother Rosie Razor/McCoy, of Benton Harbor, MI; 2 sons, Ernest Lee and Jerome Atkins Jr, 3 daughters, Kotina Atkins, Jermisha Atkins-Osby, and Jerniya Atkins, all of Benton Harbor, MI; 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grands; 2 sisters, Reshonda Cheers of Ohio, and Kotina Razor of South Bend, In; 5 aunts Betty McCoy, of South Carolina, Bernice Swift and Elizabeth Kimble, of Dyersburg, TN, Edith Atkins of Benton Harbor, MI, and Earnestine Carlton of Detroit, MI. 2 uncles Julius McCoy of Detroit, MI, and Pastor Donnie (Marilyn) Mays of Ridgely, TN, a special friend Mashell Ford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jerome was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert and Georgia Atkins, and maternal grandparents Rev. Willie C McCoy and Clara McCoy, brother; Richard Atkins and sister; Mildred Atkins, aunt; Ida Atkins, Carolyn Atkins, May Anna Burkette, and Betty White, uncles: Leroy McCutchen, Jimmy Hurt, William McCoy, and Rev. Larry McCoy.
