James McArthur Wofford departed this earth on October 4, 2020, peacefully, while at home in the loving arms of his wife in Benton Harbor, Michigan after a courageous battle with cancer.
James was born on June 29, 1944, in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Benton and Gyona Wofford. In his early life, he relocated to Benton Harbor, MI for better opportunities. James was a veteran who served his country in the honor of the U.S Army from the years of 1964-1967 in the Vietnam War. He worked for Bosch and retired of 30 years working as a machine operator.
All those who met James who likes to call himself “Butch” will tell you the most distinct thing about him was how much he loved his family. He had a unique sense of humor that would brighten anyone’s day. In his spare time, James loved to fish, listen to music in his garage, and travel to Arkansas and Colorado whenever he could. He had a strong love for his pick-up truck which he cherished dearly. James was a very loving man whose heart was truly made of gold.
James was a loving husband survived by his devoted wife Alice Mae Wofford. James leaves his memories, two sons James M. Wofford Jr., Kareem (Demitis) Wofford, four daughters, Donna (Jamel) Gilbert, Gyona (Marlon) Richardson, Roshonda Wofford, Nikkita (Rocky) Willis, and granddaughter Shanisha Wofford whom he raised as his own. Two brothers Glen Wofford and Wallace Wofford. Three sisters Joyce (Love) Redman, Belinda (Clarance) Avery, and Benita (Alvin) White. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. And a special friend Crayman Douglas.
He’s preceded in death by his parents Benton and Gyona Wofford, brothers Donald Wofford, Curtis Wofford, William Wofford, sisters Penny Wofford, Corliss Wofford, and Mary Mahone, granddaughters Sharonda Khrayzat, Shaniqua S. Wofford, and grandson James M. Wofford.
