James Douglas Madden, Jr.,72, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, departed this life on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at home peacefully after a lengthy battle with illness.
James, Jr. was born July 24th, 1948 to James D. Madden Sr. and Estella Miles in Birmingham, Alabama. James resided in Benton Harbor, Michigan for over 30 years. He lived in several different cities and towns during his journey of life that included: Chicago, IL. and Covert, Michigan. On August 19th, 1988 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Sadie Derone Poole.
James was employed at various jobs. His passion was cars. He was self-employed for over fifty years in the Chicago and Michigan area. He was a top-notch auto mechanic. James also did auto body repairs and painting. He will be remembered as a man of many talents.
James attended and served at multiple churches in the Benton Harbor area, including Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Saint Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, and later united with the Union Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church until his passing. James was a kind person with a heart of gold and could bring a crowd to smiles and laughter with his outgoing and playful personality. He cared for people, especially his family.
James' interests included: fishing, singing, and drawing, dancing, wearing nice clothes, family gatherings, and cowboy movies, spending time with his friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sadie, his parents James Sr. and Estella Miles, stepmother Alemda Madden, Brother James (Chubby), and Sister Gloria.
James leaves behind the following family members to always remember the good times, to always trust in God, and to love others as yourself. Children: Bob Davis (Benton Harbor), Tamika (Michael Williams) Madden (Benton Harbor), Virginia (Derrick) Lewis, 10 Grandchildren, 2 special grandchildren who he raised Dazmon Madden and Ambrece London, 1 Great-grandchildren and 1 step great-child. Still remaining are two brothers Fred (Robin) Madden, Sr., Coloma, MI and Samuel (Regina) Madden, Newark, Ohio; his sister, Margaret Boxx, Benton Harbor, MI and a very special friend, Lonnie Walker, special Aunt Alleyne Burton, and a host of uncles, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and cousins.
