Isaiah Hunt Obituary

Isaiah Lamar Hunt, lovingly known to many as Zeek or Pops, was born on February 2, 1980, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. He was raised in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he built lifelong friendships and deep family roots. Isaiah later moved to Kankakee, Illinois, where he attended and proudly graduated from Kankakee High School in 1998, before returning home to Benton Harbor.

Music was a defining part of Isaiah’s life from an early age. He began singing at just 3 years old, and his voice quickly became a gift to everyone around him. After graduating high school, around the age of 19–20, Isaiah followed his passion into quartet singing, a genre he deeply loved and cherished throughout his life. Quartet music wasn’t just something he listened to—it was a part of who he was, a ministry and expression of his soul.

Isaiah was the only child of his mother, with siblings through his father. He shared a special bond with his family and maintained close relationships throughout his life. His siblings include Johnnie B. Hunt of Forrest City, Arkansas; Willie (Stephanie) L. Hunt, Rickey Hunt, Darnell Hunt, and Nellie Cathey, all of South Bend, Indiana.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Isaiah held many jobs throughout his life, but he was best known for his work in transportation, especially as a school bus driver. He took pride in safely transporting children each day and was loved by many students and families for his warm spirit and caring heart.

Isaiah married the love of his life, Sonte (Nikki) Hunt, and together they shared more than 15 years of love, partnership, and memories. Family meant everything to Isaiah. He was a devoted father of six children: Zaiah Hunt, Darius Watson, Isaiah Hunt Jr., Z’aien Hunt, Michael Harmon Jr., and Iyana Hunt.  Isaiah was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life: Za’Viere Hunt, Saphyre Williams, Da’Kari Watson and Da’Mari Watson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews all of whom he loved deeply! He had many Godchildren who he treated as his own.

Isaiah was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John D. Hunt and Gloria J. (Love) Hunt, and his sons, Elijah Powell and Xavier Hunt.

Isaiah Lamar Hunt will forever be remembered for his loving heart, infectious smile, love for music, dedication to family, and the countless lives he touched. Though he is gone from our sight, his voice, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
