Mother Isabelle Sessom(n) began the journey of life on the 5th day of the month of October, in the year 1929, being the daughter of the late Miles and Mary (Miller) Nelums.
She was born in Blytheville, Arkansas, the eighth of nine children, and would later, at a young age, become a participant in the Northern migration of our people from the South while accompanying her father, along with her younger sister, who would eventually settle in Benton Harbor, the city she would make her lifetime home.
In July of 1945, Ms. Isabelle joined her life in marriage with the late Mack (M.C.) Sessom. From this union, fourteen children were born. Later, in October of 1972, Isabelle readily embraced the gift of God’s eternal salvation by being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at Bethlehem Temple. She would go on to align herself under the pastoral leadership of Nathaniel Wells, Sr. of Community C.O.G.I.C. where she continued to grow in the knowledge and loved our Lord and Savior.
After the emptying of her nest, Sister Sesson ventured out into this world and exercised the irresistible aspirations of her spirit through employment and driving a car - which she greatly enjoyed – and volunteerism; while she continued to lead a life centered around the worship and praise of our God.
The indominable spirit that was Mother Sesson made her way back to the Father of Lights on the Saturday morning of March 20, 2021.
She was preceded in eternal rest by five (5) sons, Mack Jr., Spencer, Daniel, Alvin, and Bernard; and three (3) of her four sisters, Phyllis, Goldleaner, and Ida Mae.
She leaves to celebrate her life, sister Essie Nelums; six (6) daughters, Rosemary of Benton Harbor, MI., Valerie of Grand Rapids,MI., Leona of Compton, CA. Sharon (Mack) of Benton Harbor, MI., Beverly of Long Beach, CA. and Ramona of Long Beach, CA.; three (3) sons, Rodney of Long Beach, CA., Ernest of Benton Harbor, MI., Adonis of San Diego, CA; and many, many grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
