Ida Taylor-Vance Obituary

Ida Bee Vance suddenly passed away on March 25, 2024, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.  She was born June 12, 1944, to Lizzie & Dave Wallace of Helena, Arkansas where she studied in the West Helena School System. She was the oldest of all her siblings. She later adopted Logan as her last name when Lizzie married (Nathaniel Logan).

In 1961 Ida married her first love, Eddie King, Jr and with the help of her uncle, Roy Murphy, in 1964, they moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan.  They have nine children together. Ida worked at Benton Harbor High School in food services before becoming a nurse at Berrien General Hospital & Shoreham Terrace. She retired as a Home Healthcare Nurse with Lakeland in 2003. In 2009 she married Robert Vance.

Ida was an anointed, accomplished singer.  She was a lead singer in several choirs as well as Greater Grace Temple where she remained a member under the leadership of Bishop George Dewberry serving as the Women’s Ministry Chair until moving to Grand Rapids in 2018. She then joined Apostolic Faith Church & served in the widower’s ministry under the leadership of District Elder Dorian Richardson. Ida loved quartet music. She was a member of the legendary Gospel Propheteers, she sang with the King Brothers, and later with the Wings of Joy.  She also had her own radio band. She loved spending time with family and singing together. Ida was a true matriarch with a great sense of humor who was well loved by her family and friends.  The wisdom, direction, and love she provided to her family is invaluable and will sustain them for years to come.

She leaves to cherish her memory: sisters Mattie Harden -West Helena, AR, Gwendolyn Wallace-Cooper-Winter Haven, Florida. Brothers Walter (Jeannette) Banks Lansing, MI, Albert (Alicia Jo) Logan -Jackson, MI, Ronny Wallace -West Helena, AR. All nine children: Linda (Clance) Cooks-Grand Rapids, MI, Ida B.
