“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing”.
II Timothy 4: 7-8
Hulon ‘Duck” McAfee, Sr. was born to the late Henry McAfee, Senior, and Alberta McAfee on October 17, 1938, in Dekalb Mississippi. It is not known how Hulon acquired the nickname “Duck”. Hulon accepted Christ at an early age. In his later years, he served under the leadership of Pastor Fletcher McAfee, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Niles, Michigan.
On April 23, 2024, Hulon quietly slipped away at River Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Niles, Michigan. Hulon had expressed his lack of fear when it came to death. He said he was ready, thus leaving this mortal world to enter a world of immortality.
Duck was a caring and humorous man with a heart of gold. He truly loved his family and took great pride in his culinary skills. He would often be found on the side of the road picking poke salad to cook, or turtles to filet. Additionally, he was a phenomenal griller and fish fryer. At our family reunions, he and his nephew Buck would arrive early to do the grilling. There was never a family gathering that he failed to lead the way in song and with a huge smile.
Hulon was employed in several areas in Ohio and Michigan. He worked for his brother at McAfee Construction for several years. He spent many years with his grandchildren talking of days of old and enjoying the great outdoors sitting on the porch until his health began to decline. Hulon had an amazing voice and enjoyed singing tunes by his favorite artists, Doc McKenzie and Lee Williams. He was a proud member of J. W. Hood International F & M Masons and The Order of Eastern Star.
Hulon is survived by his wife of 34 years, Charlie McAfee of Niles, Michigan; Children: Brenda Harmon, Gerald McAfee, and Hulon Jr. (Rita) McAfee Jr, all of Benton, Harbor, MI; Frederick (Tammy) McAfee, Spotsylvania, VA., Hulon Brown, Denise Brooks, both of Ft.
