Herman Lee Young

Herman Lee Young, 75 of Benton Harbor departed this life July 02, 2024. 

Herman was born July 18, 1948 in Benton Harbor,  to the union of Rufus and Nellie Baker Young Sr. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1966, Lake Michigan Collage in the late 1970's with an Associate's degree and in 1983, Herman earned a Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University. He promoted higher education so you could improve your situation with a higher paying job.

Herman served his county as part of the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam.

Herman was known to be a great dresser, smooth talker, good listener, and keen observer. He enjoyed all sports, reading books, magazines and the newspaper. Herman liked playing dominos, cards, shooting pool, dancing and driving his 1976 Mercedes all over town. He would cause a traffic jam because he only drove “his baby” ten miles an hour.  Herman was sought out by many needing advice or information. He was a vital resource.

Herman leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Debria Young; daughters, Schenetta Johnson Robinson, Darnika “Dot” (Damian) Rosebud and Maznah “Maz” (Corey) Young; sons, Admund  “Mund” Williams and Juan “Tuffy” Guess; sisters, Marie Silby and Janet Howard; brothers, Pastor, Rufus (Patricia) Young Jr., Curtis Young and Charles ( Bessie) Young; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.

Herman was preceded in death by, his parents, Rufus Young Sr. and Nellie Young; sister, Dorothy Prophet; brother, Wallace Young.
