Hardie Stewart Obituary

Hardie Taretis Stewart, 86, passed away at Lakeland Hospital. After Several visits for different ailments over the years he was nicknamed Iron Man by his doctor, family and friends. He finally took his rest on June 30th, 2025.

Hardie was born in Villa Ridge, Illinois on March 30, 1939, to Johnnie and Juanita (Kilgore) Stewart. In 1941, His family moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan. Hardie graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1957. He was a foreman at Bendix now Bosch Foundry in St. Joseph, Michigan where he worked for 35 plus years. He was a little league baseball coach for many years.  A member of Prince Hall Masons holding various positions.  A member of the Old Timers club and Dorie Miller American Legion Post 410. He was also a hunter, avid card and pool player.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Davis) Stewart, parents Johnnie and Juanita Stewart, sister Barbara Jean Stewart Bowers, son Anthony Stewart, and infant daughter De Antha Stewart.  He is survived by son Richard Stewart, daughters Tamara Stewart and Arnetta Greenlee. A host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Niece, Nephews, Cousins and Special Friend Lender Massey.

He will forever be known as the rock and the provider for our family.
